The game, part of the round of 16 in the CONCACAF Champions Cup, ended in a 1-1 draw at BMO Field in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
LAFC”s winning streak, which had reached five games at the start of the season, came to a halt with this draw. The match saw Alajuelense take the lead just before halftime, with a goal from Alejandro Bran in the 44th minute. However, Heung-min responded promptly in the second half, assisting Denis Bouanga for the equalizer in the 56th minute, demonstrating his ability to influence the game.
This season, the Korean superstar has now accumulated one goal and seven assists across six matches in all competitions. Prior to this match, LAFC had achieved victories in their first five games of the season, including three wins in the Major League Soccer campaign and two straight victories in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
The two teams will face off again next Tuesday at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela, Costa Rica, for the second leg of their matchup. Despite the draw, LAFC dominated the statistics in the opening leg, registering an impressive 31-4 advantage in shot attempts, and outshooting their opponents 13-3.
