South Florida QB Byrum Brown Enters Transfer Portal, Set to Visit Auburn

Byrum Brown, the starting quarterback for South Florida, has officially entered the transfer portal and is planning a visit to Auburn this weekend. Sources confirmed that Brown could reunite with his former coach, Alex Golesh, now leading the Tigers” program.

Brown”s potential move to Auburn comes at a time when the Tigers are looking to revitalize an offense that has struggled this season, ranking among the lowest in the Power 4 conferences. The senior quarterback from Raleigh, North Carolina, has one year of eligibility left and could significantly bolster Auburn”s offensive capabilities.

During his tenure at South Florida, Brown showcased his skills by leading all FBS quarterbacks with a remarkable 42 total touchdowns and averaging 347.2 yards of offense per game this season. He completed 66.3% of his passes, throwing for 3,158 yards, with 28 touchdowns against 7 interceptions. In addition to his passing prowess, he also demonstrated his mobility, rushing for 1,008 yards and scoring 14 rushing touchdowns, with six games featuring over 100 rushing yards.

Under Golesh”s guidance, Brown played a pivotal role in the Bulls” success, helping them to a 9-4 season that included impressive early victories against then-No. 25 Boise State and then-No. 13 Florida, propelling them to a ranking of No. 18 in the AP poll.

Throughout his four seasons at South Florida, Brown accumulated a total of 7,690 passing yards, along with 61 passing touchdowns, and rushed for 2,265 yards with 31 rushing touchdowns. This impressive record highlights his dual-threat capability and potential for success at Auburn.

Auburn, which finished the season with a 5-7 record, ranked 99th in the FBS for passing yards per game at 197.1 and 74th in scoring with an average of 26.8 points per game. The team is currently facing a transition, as the top three quarterbacks—Jackson Arnold, Ashton Daniels, and Deuce Knight—are also expected to enter the transfer portal.

Golesh, who was hired on November 30 to succeed former coach Hugh Freeze, is looking to turn around a program that has experienced five consecutive losing seasons. The addition of Byrum Brown could mark a significant step in revitalizing Auburn”s offense and returning the team to a competitive status.
