During a media session on Wednesday, Tennessee Volunteers defensive back Jalen McMurray addressed the team”s recent challenges and preparations as they head into a bye week. Following a tough loss to the Oklahoma Sooners that effectively removed the Vols from playoff contention, the focus is now on regrouping for their final three regular season games.
The Volunteers will play at home against New Mexico State next Saturday, followed by a crucial game against their rivals in The Swamp before concluding the season at home against in-state rival Vanderbilt.
McMurray emphasized the importance of communication within the defense, stating, “I feel like our communication was probably the best it”s been in a while. Just being able to communicate, all of us on the same page is always good for being a defense and being in the right places. But, like I said, communication.”
Despite struggles with yardage and points allowed, McMurray noted that the defense has displayed its ability to create momentum-shifting plays, particularly through turnovers. “Yeah, I think it”s an understanding that, you know, we”re blessed to be able to come out here and play,” he said. “Every day we take advantage of the opportunity of playing for Tennessee. And I feel like as a group, that”s the vibe. We get to play the game that we all grew up playing.”
The team appears to maintain a positive atmosphere, which is crucial given their current standings. McMurray expressed eagerness to return to the field, indicating that the team is using this week to focus on self-improvement and paying attention to the finer details of their game.
The upcoming weeks will be a true test of the Volunteers” resolve as they aim to finish the season strong. To hear more from Jalen McMurray on his thoughts and the team”s outlook, click the provided link to access the full media availability.
