Treylon Burks Delivers Stunning One-Handed Touchdown Catch for Commanders

Treylon Burks showcased his incredible talent with a remarkable one-handed touchdown catch during the Washington Commanders” 27-26 overtime loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday night. This stunning play, which many are calling one of the finest catches of the NFL season, occurred in the corner of the end zone.

The impressive grab took place on third-and-goal from the five-yard line as the Commanders began their second-half drive. Quarterback Marcus Mariota took the snap from the shotgun formation and delivered a fade pass to Burks. With Riley Moss, the Broncos” cornerback, closely guarding him, Burks turned, leaped, and reached out with his right hand to snag the ball just before hitting the ground.

This touchdown marked Burks” second career score and his first since 2022. The catch drew high praise from NBC commentator Cris Collinsworth, who likened it to the iconic one-handed catch made by Odell Beckham Jr. in 2014. Interestingly, Burks wears the same number, 13, that Beckham wore during his time with the New York Giants. Beckham himself acknowledged the catch on social media, posting “13 13.”

Despite the accolades, Burks remained humble about his achievement. “To me, it was just making a play for the team, honestly,” he remarked. “I”m not the type that will sit there and scroll on the internet. I kind of stay away from that.”

Burks returned to action after undergoing surgery on the same right hand three weeks prior. The former first-round pick by the Tennessee Titans is eager to revive his career, especially after the Commanders took a chance on him following an ACL injury. Coming into the game, he had recorded just four receptions for 72 yards this season.

Commanders” coach Dan Quinn expressed his confidence in Burks” potential, stating, “We knew he wasn”t there yet. We said, “We”re not going to miss a step with you, man. We”re going to develop you.” Then you see him in there at 6 a.m. and wanting to learn. This is a guy who wanted to prove it, who wanted to show it, and I thought, “We”re going to give him the space to do that.” I think there”s a lot there, and I”m really excited he”s here.”
