Wil Lutz Signs Three-Year Extension with Denver Broncos, Aims to Finish Career with Team

Wil Lutz, the place kicker for the Denver Broncos, has signed a three-year contract extension, expressing his hope to conclude his career with the team. Lutz”s agent, John Perla, confirmed that the agreement was nearing completion. “The whole process was fairly easy because we were all on the same page on where I stand in this building and that I want to be part of this going forward,” Lutz stated during a press briefing.

The details of the contract have not been fully disclosed, but a source indicated to The Denver Post that Lutz”s new deal positions him among the top 10 highest-paid kickers in the league. According to OvertheCap.com, the salaries for kickers ranked from third to tenth are closely clustered, averaging between $5 million and $5.51 million per season.

Lutz first secured a starting role in the NFL with Sean Payton in New Orleans back in 2016. After Payton joined the Broncos, he traded for Lutz at the end of his inaugural training camp with the team. Lutz had previously signed a two-year contract in March 2024. As this season progressed, Lutz made it clear to Broncos general manager George Paton that he wished to retire in Denver, stating, “which, hopefully, is more than just this contract.”

This season, the 31-year-old kicker has achieved a field goal conversion rate of 85%, slightly above the league average of 84.8%. He has successfully made several crucial kicks during the season, reinforcing his value to the team.

Head coach Sean Payton emphasized Lutz”s consistency and the respect he commands within the locker room when discussing the extension. Payton”s recognition of Lutz”s contributions illustrates the kicker”s significance to the Broncos” future plans.
