Anchor Bay Expands Conference Lead with Win Over Romeo; Regina Dominates GP North

New Baltimore Anchor Bay has taken a significant step towards defending its title in the Macomb Area Conference White Division with a crucial victory over a close rival. The Tars edged out Romeo with a score of 44-38 this past weekend, creating a small buffer in the standings. Currently, the Tars hold a 1.5-game lead over both the Bulldogs and St. Clair Shores Lakeview.

With a perfect 6-0 record in conference play and several games still on the schedule, the Tars are well-positioned as they continue their campaign. Romeo and Lakeview are tied for second place, each boasting identical records of 5-2, followed by Utica at 2-4, Macomb L”Anse Creuse North at 2-5, and Warren Cousino at 0-7. The victory over Romeo improved Anchor Bay”s overall record to 13-1, with standout performances from Karissa Lewis, who scored 18 points, and Julia Tkaczyk, who added 13 points.

On the other hand, Kayla Babich contributed 15 points for Romeo (12-5), which remains tied for second place as they prepare for league matchups against Utica and Warren Cousino this week.

In another matchup, Warren Regina faced Grosse Pointe North and secured a dominating 63-31 victory. Stepping out of the challenging CHSL, the Saddelites showcased their prowess against the MAC Red Division opponent. Sophomore guard Emersen Holder led the team with an impressive 23 points, complemented by nine rebounds, seven assists, and six steals. Jailyn Houth contributed eight points, while junior Mattie Houth also scored eight points and recorded four steals. This win elevated Regina”s season record to 11-5.

In other boys basketball action, New Haven defeated Center Line 60-55, tying them for first place in the MAC Gold Division. Meanwhile, Madison Heights Lamphere continued their strong performance, defeating St. Clair 58-41, solidifying their status as MAC Bronze Division champions.

As the season progresses, teams are gearing up for critical matchups that will shape the playoff picture. The upcoming weeks will be crucial for all contenders as they jockey for position in their respective divisions.
