In a commanding performance, Bishop McDevitt triumphed over Exeter with a score of 42-0 in the District 3 Class 5A football semifinals held on Friday night at McDevitt in Harrisburg. This victory secures McDevitt”s place in the district championship game.
Leading the charge for McDevitt, Nazir Jones-Davis showcased his skills by rushing for two touchdowns, while Howard Holton Jr. made significant contributions with two touchdown receptions. Jones-Davis found the end zone on runs of 53 and 3 yards, while Holton Jr. caught touchdown passes of 20 and 30 yards from quarterback Sebastian Williams.
With this win, McDevitt will face Solanco in the district title match scheduled for 7 p.m. next Friday at a venue yet to be determined. Solanco earned their spot in the finals after defeating New Oxford 43-12.
In contrast, Exeter”s offense struggled significantly, with star running back Leo Brown managing only 49 yards on 17 carries. The Eagles finished the game with a mere 61 total yards, concluding their season with a record of 10-3. In comparison, McDevitt amassed a total of 333 yards in the game, showcasing their offensive dominance.
Brown concluded the season with an impressive tally of 2,444 rushing yards on 281 carries, along with 28 rushing touchdowns. Notably, McDevitt had previously defeated Exeter 48-14 in last year”s district championship game, marking a consistent rivalry between the two teams.
