Florida State Cancels 2026 Football Game Against Notre Dame

The Florida State Seminoles have officially canceled their scheduled football game against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for the 2026 season. This matchup was anticipated to take place in Tallahassee and would have marked the first meeting between the two teams since 2021, and just the fourth encounter overall.

As the Seminoles focus on their upcoming games in the 2025 season, they are also keeping an eye on future matchups. Currently, Florida State has four games left in the 2025 regular season, with hopes of qualifying for a bowl game still alive. Meanwhile, the program had previously solidified its 2026 schedule earlier this year, which included a game against FCS Central Arkansas.

Recent developments in November have led to alterations in Florida State”s schedule. The Seminoles have removed the game against Notre Dame, creating a vacancy that will need to be filled. The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) announced in September that it would transition to a nine-game conference schedule, mandating that teams face ten Power Five opponents annually. This change is set to be fully in effect by 2027.

Despite the absence of Notre Dame from the 2026 lineup, Florida State will still face ten Power Five opponents. The Seminoles will complete their home-and-home series against Alabama in Tuscaloosa on September 19, 2026, and will host their annual rivalry game against Florida on November 28, 2026. In conference play, they will host teams like Clemson, NC State, SMU, and Virginia, while traveling to face Miami, Louisville, Pittsburgh, and Boston College.

It is important to note that Florida State is still set to meet with Notre Dame in both 2029 and 2030. The 2029 game is scheduled for Tallahassee, while the 2030 matchup will occur in South Bend. Historically, Florida State holds a 6-6 record against Notre Dame but has lost the last four meetings, including three since Mike Norvell took over as head coach.

As the Seminoles prepare for their next challenge, the focus will shift to their upcoming games and maintaining momentum as they strive for a successful season.
