Football Matches at LA 2028 Olympics to Begin Early Across Seven Cities

Men”s and women”s football matches during the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics are set to commence four days ahead of the official opening ceremony, with games starting on July 10. This decision, approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), aims to provide teams with additional rest days compared to prior Olympics.

The tournament will take place across seven cities in the United States, allowing for a wide geographical spread of the events. The venues include major cities such as New York, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, San Jose, San Diego, and Pasadena. The final matches will be held at the historic Rose Bowl, a venue with a rich history in international football, including hosting the final of the 1994 men”s World Cup.

In the early days of the tournament, matches will be held in New York and Columbus, featuring a total of nine contests from July 10 to July 17. This includes a men”s quarterfinal match slated for July 20. Nashville is also scheduled to host nine matches during the same timeframe, culminating in both men”s and women”s quarterfinals on July 20 and 21.

St. Louis will contribute to the excitement with eight matches from July 10 to July 17, including a men”s quarterfinal on July 20. In San Jose, seven matches will take place, showcasing women”s group-stage games on July 11, 14, and 17, along with a quarterfinal on July 21.

San Diego will be particularly active, hosting a total of eleven matches, which encompasses women”s group-stage games, a women”s quarterfinal on July 21, as well as the semifinals for both men”s and women”s competitions on July 24 and 25. The bronze medal matches are also set for July 27 and 28.

The tournament will conclude at the iconic Rose Bowl, where five matches will be played, including a women”s quarterfinal on July 21, the semifinals on July 24 and 25, and the highly anticipated gold medal matches scheduled for July 28 and 29. The complete schedule for the tournament is expected to be released later this year.
