Leuzinger Football Falls to San Clemente in CIF-SS Semifinal Matchup

In a disappointing end to their playoff journey, the Leuzinger football team faced off against San Clemente in the CIF-SS Division 2 semifinal on November 21, 2025. The Olympians, who were making their first semifinal appearance since 2022, were defeated 35-7.

Despite a strong effort by Leuzinger running back Journee Tonga, who showcased his skills with a spectacular 83-yard touchdown run, the team struggled to maintain momentum. Key penalties disrupted their offensive rhythm, and defensive lapses were exploited by the Tritons.

San Clemente, with a balanced attack led by quarterback Preston Beck, capitalized on Leuzinger”s mistakes. Beck connected with Carson Sloan on a pivotal 55-yard screen pass that immediately answered Tonga”s touchdown, extending San Clemente”s lead to 21-7 before halftime.

Leuzinger coach Jason Miller acknowledged the Tritons” superior performance, stating, “They whipped us on all three sides of the ball. They made plays when we didn”t.” The Olympians” offense struggled to convert opportunities, including a significant drive that ended in a turnover on downs at a crucial moment.

After halftime, San Clemente continued to dominate, scoring another touchdown early in the fourth quarter to increase their lead to 28-7. Jaxson Rex further sealed the victory for the Tritons with a 95-yard interception return for a touchdown late in the game.

For Leuzinger, despite the defeat, the season marked a significant improvement, as they advanced further in the playoffs than in recent years. Miller emphasized the growth of the program, stating, “We proved that we”re a public school powerhouse and a team to be reckoned with for the future.” The Olympians” focus will now shift to refining their discipline and preparing for the next season.
