Longmont Football Stripped of Playoff Spot, Skyline Takes Over

Longmont High School football has been declared ineligible for the Class 4A state playoffs, allowing Skyline High School to take its place. This decision was announced on Monday, following an administrative oversight that led to a self-reported rules violation. Initially, Longmont was seeded as the 24th and final team in the playoffs, but now Skyline will fill that position and compete against No. 9 Northfield as the No. 24 seed.

A text statement from the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) confirmed this change, stating that Longmont”s ineligibility stemmed from an issue involving an ineligible player. Coaches had been mistakenly informed that the player could participate, but since he was not eligible, all games he played in must now be vacated. Longmont finished the season with three wins and seven losses.

Representatives from Longmont and its football program were unavailable for comment at the time of the announcement. Skyline, which had previously defeated Longmont with a score of 55-33 earlier in the season, is now preparing for its playoff matchup against Northfield. This game is set to take place at All-City Stadium on Saturday at 6 PM.

“We have no comment on what happened at Longmont,” said Lindsay Yost, the athletic director at Skyline. “They”re a district school we respect and value our relationship with. For us, we are happy to be in the playoffs and we are excited for our kids and community.”

Yost expressed enthusiasm for the team”s recent progress, noting that Coach Justin Vogt has significantly raised the standards for the Skyline football program. “He”s built a culture of accountability, consistency, and pride that shows up not only in how our athletes compete, but in how they represent our school,” she added. An official at a recent home game remarked on the discipline exhibited by this year”s Skyline team, highlighting the positive direction of the program.

The Falcons concluded their regular season with a record of 4-6, marking a notable improvement following two consecutive seasons of 1-9 records. This playoff opportunity reflects the hard work and dedication of the players and coaching staff as they look to make a mark in the postseason.
