The Maine high school football playoffs saw several exciting matchups on Friday, with teams vying for a chance to compete in the championship games. In a nail-biting finish, Kennebunk narrowly defeated Falmouth with a score of 21-20, advancing to the Class B South title game.
In the 8-Small North regional final, top-seeded Stearns dominated Dexter with a commanding 64-8 victory. Similarly, in the 8-Small South regional final, Old Orchard Beach showcased their prowess by defeating Telstar 74-28.
The playoffs also featured significant action in the A North semifinals, where Portland overcame Deering 35-14, and Bangor triumphed over Oxford Hills with a score of 35-6. In the A South semifinals, Thornton Academy secured a 35-12 win against South Portland, while Bonny Eagle edged out Noble 27-12.
As for the B North semifinals, Cony cruised to a 59-0 victory over Messalonskee, and Fryeburg Academy defeated Lawrence 34-13. In the B South semifinals, Westbrook narrowly beat Marshwood 15-12 before Kennebunk advanced with their close win against Falmouth.
The C quarterfinals saw Greely dominate Medomak Valley 36-8, while Leavitt won decisively against Foxcroft Academy 34-3. Hermon also secured a place in the next round by defeating Nokomis 30-6, and Wells edged out Gardiner 14-12.
In the D South semifinals, Winthrop/Monmouth/Hall-Dale defeated Oak Hill 28-13, and Morse pulled off a close win against Dirigo, finishing 28-22.
