The Mizoram blind football team has achieved a remarkable victory by clinching the Greater Lions Vision Cup 2025, which took place from November 8 to 9 in Siliguri, located in North Bengal. Representing the Mizoram Blind Sports Association (MBSA), the team demonstrated outstanding skills and teamwork, finishing the league stage without a loss and ultimately securing the championship title with an impressive performance.
This two-day national tournament was collaboratively organized by the Football Association for the Blind in Bengal (FABB) and the Lions Club of Siliguri Greater, receiving official recognition from the Indian Blind Football Federation (IBFF). Teams from various states, including Jharkhand, Nagaland, Mizoram, and West Bengal, competed, with Mizoram and the host state of West Bengal emerging as the top contenders for the championship match.
In a captivating final, Mizoram triumphed over West Bengal with a score of 3-0, a feat accomplished by their exceptional captain, Shimon Chorei, who scored all three goals, completing a hat-trick. Chorei”s remarkable display not only led his team to victory but also earned him the titles of “Man of the Tournament” and “Top Scorer,” contributing a total of six goals throughout the championship.
This victory held sentimental value for Mizoram football fans, as the final was staged in Siliguri—the same venue where the state”s men”s football team previously won the Santosh Trophy a decade earlier. Interestingly, both finals concluded with identical scorelines of 3-0, further illustrating Mizoram”s continued excellence in the sport.
Upon returning triumphantly to Sairang on November 11, the team received a warm welcome from MBSA officials and supporters. A thanksgiving and felicitation ceremony was held at the home of R. Lalramthanga, Senior Vice President of MBSA. The President of MBSA, Lalrampana, praised the players for their commitment and teamwork, while N. Vahneichhi, Executive Member and I&PR Officer, expressed gratitude to the media and supporters for their invaluable encouragement.
The team manager, Jerry Lalramenga, who also serves as the General Secretary of MBSA, provided a detailed technical report on the team”s performance, emphasizing the association”s dedication to fostering inclusive sports and achieving athletic excellence.
