The father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Patrick “Pat” Mahomes Sr., was taken into custody in Texas on Tuesday. Authorities reported that he violated the terms of his probation stemming from a previous conviction for driving while intoxicated (DWI).
According to officials, Mahomes Sr., aged 55, was arrested during a scheduled meeting with his probation officer after a warrant was issued for a probation violation. He was held in the Smith County jail in Tyler, Texas, as of Wednesday. His attorney did not respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press.
In August 2024, Mahomes Sr. received a sentence of five years probation after pleading guilty to a DWI charge. A probation violation report indicated that on January 1, he registered a high alcohol level on his ankle monitor. This incident was part of a series of DWI arrests that Mahomes Sr. has faced over the years.
Before his legal troubles, Patrick Mahomes Sr. enjoyed a successful career as a Major League Baseball pitcher, playing for six different teams over an eleven-year span that concluded in 2003. His past athletic achievements have often been overshadowed by his current legal issues.
This recent arrest highlights ongoing concerns regarding Mahomes Sr.”s compliance with the law, particularly in relation to his repeated DWI offenses.
