The CIF Southern California regional football championships took place over the weekend, showcasing thrilling matchups across various divisions on Friday and Saturday.
In the Division 1-AA game, San Diego Cathedral Catholic triumphed over Los Alamitos with a score of 42-21. Bakersfield Christian narrowly defeated La Habra 24-21 in the Division 2-AA showdown. The Division 3-AA contest saw Ventura edge out Arroyo Grande 35-28, while Barstow secured a tense victory against Reedley Immanuel 13-12 in the Division 4-AA game.
In other results, El Cajon Christian defeated Cerritos Valley Christian 27-13 in the Division 5-AA clash. Valley Center overcame Valley View 30-19 in Division 6-AA, and Woodbridge shut out San Fernando 13-0 in Division 7-AA.
The championship games continued on Saturday with several key matchups scheduled. In Division 1-A, Oxnard Pacifica (14-0) is set to face Granite Hills (10-3) at 7 PM. Meanwhile, Rio Hondo Prep (14-0) will compete against Santa Fe Christian (13-0) at Carlsbad, also at 7 PM. Other notable games include Delano Kennedy visiting Carson, Hillcrest facing Beckman, Bishop Union taking on South Gate, and San Diego Morse battling Grace.
Winners of these regional contests will advance to the state bowl championships, slated for December 12-13 at Saddleback College, Fullerton High, and Buena Park High. The state bowl championship will feature a highlight match in the Open Division, where Santa Margarita (10-3) will go against Concord De La Salle (12-0) at 8 PM on Saturday, December 13.
