The Auburn Tigers have bolstered their defense by signing former five-star defensive lineman Da”Shawn Womack, who recently transferred from Ole Miss. Although the NCAA Transfer Portal officially closed for new applicants, players already in the portal can still make moves to different programs.
Womack”s addition is a significant gain for Auburn, which has been seeking to enhance its roster through the transfer portal. He holds an impressive 247Sports ranking of 92.000, making him one of the top recruits in Auburn”s current class, second only to former USF quarterback Byrum Brown. Womack initially committed to LSU after showcasing his skills at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore.
During his time with the Tigers, Womack recorded 23 tackles, including 14 solo tackles, along with two sacks and a forced fumble, marking a productive start to his collegiate career. His presence is expected to strengthen Auburn”s defense, especially following the recent loss of Amaris Williams, another four-star talent currently in the portal.
Womack will join a defensive lineup that includes players like Xavier Atkins, Malik Autry, and Jourdin Crawford. Under the guidance of defensive coordinator DJ Durkin, the unit is showing promising signs of improved cohesion. Notably, Womack and Atkins both played at LSU in 2024, which could contribute to their synergy on the field.
The Auburn fanbase can look forward to the impact Womack will have on the team”s defensive strategies as they prepare for the upcoming season.
