The Cincinnati Bengals have officially traded linebacker Logan Wilson to the Dallas Cowboys, following Wilson”s trade request made last month. This move comes as a significant shift for the Bengals, who are focusing on their younger talent at linebacker.
According to NFL Network”s Ian Rapoport, Wilson, 29, asked for a trade after rookie Barrett Carter took over his starting position. In the current season, Wilson has recorded 47 tackles across eight games. He stated, “I felt like I was ,” but acknowledged that head coach Zac Taylor had a different perspective on his performance.
The Bengals” defense has faced challenges in recent weeks, particularly against the run, allowing over seven yards per carry in their last three games. Despite these struggles, sources indicate that there are no plans to reinstate Wilson into the starting lineup, as the team is committed to the rookie linebacker duo of Demetrius Knight Jr. and Carter.
After Wilson”s trade request, Taylor encouraged him to remain focused and supportive of the team, saying, “Just keep focused on being here and helping us as best you can. I know it”s frustrating with the role, but he”s handled it really well.” Taylor praised Wilson for his leadership and ability to mentor younger players despite the difficult situation.
This trade marks Wilson”s departure from the Bengals after six seasons with the team, who selected him in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He has been an integral part of the Bengals” defense, contributing to their journey to Super Bowl LVI and back-to-back AFC Championship Game appearances in 2021 and 2022. Wilson signed a four-year contract worth 36 million dollars before the 2023 season.
This is the second in-season trade made by the Bengals this year. Previously, they traded a 2026 fifth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for quarterback Joe Flacco and a sixth-round pick.
