The St. Louis Cardinals are nearing the completion of their offseason moves as they prepare for the 2026 Major League Baseball season. Following the recent trades of Nolan Arenado and Willson Contreras, the team”s lineup has become notably left-handed. In response, the Cardinals have been exploring options to add a right-handed batter.
During a recent interview, Chaim Bloom, the president of baseball operations for the Cardinals, confirmed the team”s pursuit of another right-handed bat. “Yeah, we are,” Bloom stated when asked about the search for additional hitting power. He acknowledged that while the team has not yet secured a deal, they are actively seeking opportunities in both trades and free agency.
Bloom elaborated, “I sound like a broken record here. We haven”t lined up on it just yet. There are a couple of players we”ve targeted, but for various reasons, those discussions have not materialized.” He emphasized that the organization will continue its efforts to enhance the roster, even as they head into training camp.
He further noted, “We want to ensure that we are providing our staff with a flexible and functional roster. There is still room to add there. It could be a veteran or a younger player. We have options in-house that we like, but increasing competition and adding the right kind of veteran can benefit our younger talents.” The offseason is drawing to a close, and Bloom”s focus is on making this final addition before the season officially begins.
Bloom”s offseason strategy has been generally well-received, and fans and analysts alike are eager to see how this last piece will fit into the overall team dynamic. As the Cardinals look to solidify their lineup, all eyes will be on potential acquisitions in the coming days.
