Additionally, Alim McNeill could also contribute from the interior after signing a four-year extension worth over $95 million last year, although he struggled to find his rhythm due to an injury that sidelined him for the first half of the previous season.
As the Lions look to bolster their defensive line, they may also consider adding a nose tackle with pass-rush capabilities. With Tyleik Williams, the first-round pick from last year, potentially stepping into a larger role in 2026, the team”s depth at nose tackle is currently thin. The situation has been complicated by the fact that DJ Reader remains unsigned, and Roy Lopez has recently signed with the Arizona Cardinals.
At this point, the Lions are expected to explore the draft for a young pass-rusher who can enhance their defensive strategy under Kelvin Sheppard. Last year, the team opted for Ahmed Hassanein in the sixth round, but he was waived and later returned to the practice squad. The need for a reliable second pass-rushing option is critical, as it could significantly impact the overall performance of the Lions” defense in the upcoming season.
