Garrett Wilson expresses frustration following Jets” major trades

The New York Jets made headlines on Tuesday when they traded two of their standout players, a move that has not gone unnoticed by star wide receiver Garrett Wilson. In a surprising turn of events just before the trade deadline, the Jets dealt All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for two first-round draft picks and wide receiver AD Mitchell. Shortly after, three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Quinnen Williams was traded to the Dallas Cowboys for a first-round pick and a second-round pick.

When asked about his feelings regarding the trades, Wilson conveyed his discontent while expressing a need to trust the team”s front office. “Like I said, I don”t get paid to have the vision. They do, and they”ve got one. I gotta trust them, man, I do,” he stated. However, he did not shy away from sharing his emotional response, saying, “My emotions, that side of it, I hate it. I hate it. I play football. I play with my brothers. I get to know my brothers. I hate it, but I”m paid to play football. No one cares if I hate it. Go catch the ball, you know what I”m saying?”

Wilson, despite being only in his fourth season in the NFL, has witnessed a remarkable amount of change within the Jets organization. He has already played with eight different quarterbacks throughout his career and has remarkably achieved over 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first three seasons, despite the instability at the quarterback position. The recent trades of Gardner and Williams, who were both cornerstones of the franchise, understandably weigh heavily on him.

This past offseason, Wilson signed a four-year, $130 million extension with the Jets. This season, he has recorded 36 receptions for 395 yards and four touchdowns across six games. Following the significant roster changes, it will be intriguing to see if the Jets consider any trade offers for Wilson after the 2025 season.
