Hamilton Tiger-Cats Acquire Veteran Linebacker Wynton McManis

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have bolstered their defense by signing veteran middle linebacker Wynton McManis on Wednesday, just a day after he was let go by the Toronto Argonauts. McManis, who resides in Toronto year-round, has a daughter and a son.

McManis” swift transition to the Tiger-Cats was anticipated, especially considering his local ties. His addition addresses a critical gap in Hamilton”s lineup following the departure of Canadian middle linebacker Devin Veresuk, who has signed with the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL this offseason.

Last season, McManis recorded 62 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, and one forced fumble over 15 regular-season games. The linebacker, originally from Memphis, Tennessee, played four seasons with the Argonauts from 2022 to 2025, contributing to their Grey Cup victories in 2022 and 2024. He began his CFL career with the Calgary Stampeders from 2017 to 2019, where he secured his first Grey Cup title in 2018.

Head Coach Scott Milanovich praised McManis, stating, “Wynton is one of the premier defenders in our league. He plays the game the right way — with physicality, intelligence, and a relentless motor.” Milanovich further highlighted McManis” leadership and championship experience as invaluable assets to the team.

Over his career in the CFL, McManis has amassed a total of 390 tackles, 52 special-teams tackles, 16 sacks, nine interceptions, and four forced fumbles, along with three defensive touchdowns in 100 regular-season games. His former team”s General Manager Michael “Pinball” Clemons expressed deep appreciation for McManis” impact, saying, “Some players are just different. They leave an indelible mark on your life — and Wynton McManis fits that mold. He made us better — not just a better team but better people. We are so grateful for his contributions, and while we”re sad to see him go, we wish him nothing but the best in the next chapter of his career.”
