Panthers Release Quarterback Hendon Hooker from Practice Squad

The Carolina Panthers have released quarterback Hendon Hooker from their practice squad as part of a roster move announced on Tuesday. Hooker”s exit was anticipated following the Panthers” decision to sign Mike White to the practice squad two weeks ago and subsequently promote him to the active roster earlier this week.

With Bryce Young returning from injury, Hooker found himself as the fourth quarterback on the team, making his position untenable. The Detroit Lions originally selected Hooker in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but he has only attempted nine passes in his professional career. After being waived by the Lions during the preseason, Hooker joined the Panthers” practice squad.

In addition to Hooker, the Panthers also announced the release of tackle Michael Tarquin and linebacker Carlos Basham from the practice squad. To bolster their roster, the team signed running back DeeJay Dallas and safety Israel Mukuamu, both of whom have previous experience with the Panthers this season. Furthermore, the Panthers added guard Ja”Tyre Carter as a practice squad exception; Carter had spent the entire 2024 season on the practice squad before being waived with an injury designation during the final roster cuts in August.
