Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is beginning a new chapter in his career after being traded from the New York Jets to the Dallas Cowboys ahead of the NFL trade deadline. This marks a significant change for Williams, who had been with the Jets since their selection of him as the third overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Upon the announcement of his trade, Williams took to social media to share his sentiments regarding both his former and current teams. He expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the Jets organization, stating, “New York will always have a special place in my heart.” He thanked his teammates, coaches, and the entire Jets organization for their support in his development both on and off the field.
Williams also reached out to the Jets fans, acknowledging their unwavering support. “To the fans, thank you for embracing a kid from Alabama and showing love through every high and low,” he wrote. “You welcomed me with open arms, and gave me a place to grow. Your energy and passion made every game unforgettable.”
As he transitions to his new role with the Cowboys, Williams expressed enthusiasm about the future. He concluded his message with, “I”m excited for what”s next in Dallas and can”t wait to get to work.”
During his time with the Jets, Williams established himself as a formidable presence on defense, earning accolades such as a First-Team All-Pro selection in 2022 and making three consecutive Pro Bowl appearances from 2022 to 2024. Over his career in New York, he recorded a total of 40 sacks, eight forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and one interception.
Despite his individual achievements, the Jets have struggled as a team, failing to reach the playoffs since the 2010 season, marking the longest active drought in the league. The franchise has not enjoyed a winning season since 2015, contributing to Williams” emotional response to his departure.
As the Cowboys welcome Williams, they look forward to his contributions as they aim for a successful season ahead.
