Steelers Add Super Bowl Champion Marquez Valdes-Scantling to Practice Squad

The Pittsburgh Steelers took a significant step on Tuesday by signing wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to their practice squad. This move brings him back into the fold with former teammate Aaron Rodgers, as both players previously shared the field during their time with the Green Bay Packers from 2018 to 2021.

The 31-year-old Valdes-Scantling has a notable history in the NFL, having secured two Super Bowl titles with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022 and 2023. Prior to joining the Steelers, he was with the San Francisco 49ers, where he caught four passes for 40 yards before his release last month.

Currently, the Steelers are leading the AFC North with a record of 5-3. However, they have faced challenges in consistently producing from their wide receivers beyond standout DK Metcalf, who leads the team with 29 receptions. The next highest receivers on the roster include running backs and tight ends, highlighting the need for additional depth at the receiver position.

Bringing Valdes-Scantling onto the practice squad could be a strategic move to enhance the team”s aerial attack as they look to solidify their position in the highly competitive division.
