The Minnesota Vikings have officially signed quarterback Kyler Murray following his recent release from the Arizona Cardinals. This decision was made after the Vikings focused their search on the former first overall pick from the 2019 NFL Draft.
Murray visited the Vikings” headquarters before finalizing his contract, just one day after being cut by the Cardinals. Despite Arizona owing him $36.8 million in guaranteed salary for the current season, they opted to let him go.
The Vikings find themselves with limited options this year to either challenge or replace J.J. McCarthy, their first-round draft pick in 2024. McCarthy”s injuries and struggles with consistency have raised concerns regarding how long the team can wait for him to reach his potential.
Although recent injuries and questions about his work ethic have clouded his career, Murray boasts impressive statistics, including two Pro Bowl selections and a career completion percentage of 67%. He also has accumulated 3,193 rushing yards and 32 rushing touchdowns.
After winning the Heisman Trophy at Oklahoma, Murray was recognized as the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, leading the Cardinals to significant improvements during his early seasons. One of his most memorable moments came in 2020 with the “Hail Murray,” a game-winning touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins against the Buffalo Bills.
In 2021, he threw for over 400 yards in a Week 2 matchup against the Vikings, contributing to Arizona”s strong start to the season as they began 10-2 before finishing at 11-6.
